Cranio Sacral Therapy - Sacha Lawrence

Over the years, I've had the privilege to meet and work with some top practitioners of the healing arts. I've also had the honour of meeting and working closely with some top medical doctors. But never had I had the privilege or honour of meeting and working with a top medical doctor and psychologist, who's an expert in cranio-sacral therapy and manages to combine the three disciplines in a totally masterful manner, until Sacha came along to one of my tai chi retreats and he is, for want of a better phrase, the dog's bollocks of healing. I've seen the man do miracles. Triple gold star recommendation here should you ever be in need of some serious sorting out, medically or psycho-emotionally speaking. To make an appointment with Sacha email sacha@barefootdoctorworld.com.

Sacha Tikhomirov Lawrence is a psychologist & craniosacral therapist at Helios Centre. He qualified as a medical doctor abroad over fifteen years ago and is also trained in healing and Reiki Level III.

"I pursued this therapy because it is very gentle while being at the same time incredibly effective. This is especially true in the area of pain relief and emotional issues, where orthodox medicine often fails or can’t be used due to excessive side effects".

What exactly is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy is an integrated therapy, which takes its roots from osteopathy. It envelops a holistic approach and is based on a precise knowledge of human anatomy. The Craniosacral system is one of the body's three primary life systems. Two better-known physiological systems are the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.

How Does it Work?
Craniosacral therapists listen to the body’s craniosacral rhythms which are produced by the movement of cerebro-spinal fluid between the cranium and sacrum along the spinal column. Craniosacral rhythms are unique to each person.
It is important to remember that the human body is a highly complicated and intelligent system in its own right, and has its own self-healing mechanisms. Craniosacral therapists work using resources from within the body to encourage and support these mechanisms (as opposed to channelling energy from an external source, such as in healing). Using light touches on the body, practitioners locate the source of restriction or stress, an assist the natural movement of the fluid and tissue to help the body self-correct.
Craniosacral therapy may also be combined with other complimentary therapies to help restore the body to its optimum functioning level.

What is a transpersonal psychology?
This is a school of psychology that studies the transcendent or spiritual aspects of the human experience.
Transpersonal psychologists see the school as a companion to other schools of psychology that include psychoanalysis, behaviorism, and humanistic psychology. Transpersonal psychology attempts to unify modern psychology theory with frameworks from different forms of mysticism. These vary greatly depending on the origin but include altered states of consciousness, trance and other spiritual practices. Although Carl Jung and others have explored aspects of the spiritual and transpersonal in their work, transpersonal psychology for the most part has been overlooked by psychologists who are focused on the personal and developmental aspects of the human psyche.

What Can I Expect from a Treatment?
The treatment process is a supremely relaxing experience. After the initial conversation with the practitioner, the client lies on his or her back fully clothed on a treatment couch and the practitioner uses light touch on the head, limbs and torso. After a couple of sessions people usually get familiar with their own body patterns and the way their body expresses itself. It is a good idea to become involved in the process and to give feedback to the practitioner.
