No matter by which criteria you define yourself – age, sex, status, profession, tastes, pleasures, health, philosophy, creed, values, morals, opinions, looks, dress-sense or hairstyle, in the deeper sense, you are but a field of energy – energy expressed through the physical , mental, emotional, social and financial aspects of self. Energy within the field moves in two opposing directions simultaneously – inwards towards the centre and outwards towards the periphery. the inward-bound flow can be called yin, the outward-bound flow, yang. As you interact with the external world of others and objects, energy moves out from the centre of the field to inform and animate your words and deeds. When you withdraw to rest or sleep, energy moves from the periphery back into the centre. However, owing to dwindling resources, the world is increasingly competitive, hence the need to work your butt off and because you want to have fun while you can, the proportion of yang energy moving outwards tends to be far greater than the proportion of yin moving inwards. Which is, at that energetic level, one explanation for why so many people are stressed, depressed and tired these days – there's simply not enough juice at the core to sustain them – no time to stop, regroup and let the yin kick in. The antidote lies in reclaiming your field, as you go about your business, by slightly internally repositioning yourself, perspective-wise, in relation to your world. This actually requires no extra time spent, merely that you discipline yourself to see things differently, specifically yourself once again at the centre of the field, in command, as if predominating the game from the centre of the squash court. Rather than defining yourself using traditional reference points, as stated, instead, define yourself as a point of pure consciousness, in the midst of a field of pure potential, both yourself and the field consisting of pure energy. And with every exhalation, watch energy move outwards from your physical core – your spinal column and specifically pelvic region – to populate your field all the way to the periphery, to the point of actual interface between you and others in all aspects of your life. With every inhalation, however, be mindful to watch, enjoy and appreciate energy return from the periphery to the centre again, constantly affirming, 'I reclaim my field now!' and the field will be yours'.
